The Branches of the American Government
The American Government was founded upon the principles of federalism, decentralization of power and division of government. The idea behind this model was to distribute power in such a way as to make it extremely difficult for any one person to accumulate enough of it to circumvent the other individuals and branches of the government en route to a dictatorship. Essentially, the federalist system of division of government was aimed at ensuring the continuity of the republic while simultaneously ensuring that the American people will not be subjected to another dictator anytime over the foreseeable horizon.
The U.S. Government is broken down into three primary branches: The Executive Branch, The Legislative Branch and The Judicial Branch. Each branch of the government has its own set of powers, checks, balances and responsibilities.
