Janet Napolitano and the Department of Homeland Security
Editorial: Janet Napolitano and the Department of Homeland Security

This article ariginally began as a response to a comment about an article that appeared on Mixx. It quickly became too long for the comment thread and was published here instead.
Quoting from YankeeJim:
"I don't like or appreciate stories that make fun of a persons alleged sexual orientation. It isn't funny and in America discrimination on this basis is illegal."
@YankeeJim
I agree that making fun of people on such basis as sexual orientation is not cool. I do take exception to the very last word of your comment.
Regarding the part about discrimination on such basis being illegal, we must be careful to protect all persons' unalienable right to speak their opinion --- even when they are wrong. In fact, it is the the haters --- the people who talk the most but have the least to say whose idiocy is most in need of defending. It's easy to not give a s--- when David Duke gets arrested for 'being a holocaust denier' because he's David Duke. But once the precedent is set, then the line between what is acceptable speech and what is not becomes blurred and will inevitably become a political tool for the silencing of criticism of whatever person or party happens to be in power.
For the record, I despise David Duke and do not agree with any of his views with which I am familiar. But his right to be wrong is something that must be upheld unless he is using it to incite violence against others (which he and Vladimir Putin may in fact be doing, however that is another subject for another day).
I will admit, less than a century removed from the days when women's suffrage was not a garaunteed right in America, is astounds me how so many people are completely apathetic to modern-day attempts to redefine acceptable speech and prohibit certain groups from expressing their opionions. You may disagree with the people being silenced, but what will you do then they turn the bureuacrats against you?
For those of you who are bewildered by the fact that some of us fear President Obama may indeed be at best a useful idiot (Cold War definition of the term) and at worst a genuine fascist, simply look at Ms. Napolitano's first major, highly publicized report since being sworn in as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
For those Republicans who were bewildered that some in your own party were troubled by the creation under GOP leadership of this new federal bureaucracy in the form of a quasi-intelligence agency slash federal police force. Sure, Bush and the House Republicans spearheaded its creation, but now that we're out of power those that are in power are using this unorthodox KGB-like group to spy on us. It was the first major order of business for Janet Napolitano as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) --- to put all of us (the right) on notice that government police were now going to be diverting massive amounts of resources from anti-terrorism programs in order to reinvest it into spying on Republicans. Have you read the report? That's the message I got from it anyway!
We are coming dangerously close to the day when American citizens will face persecution from their own government for the voicing of opinions deemed unacceptable by the state. Orwell's dystopia has arrived, or so it seems anyway.
This trend has to stop. America will suffer -- Democrats and Republicans alike -- if we don't do something to put a stop to the creation and/or transformation of government bureaucracies by political parties that ultimately wind up being used as weapons against the political enemies of whoever happens to be in power. Secretary Napolitano needs to start doing the job she was sworn in to do and not lower the competitive standards to precedent-setting lows by using her bully pulpit and federal mafia to attack Republicans and libertarians.
What can you do? Well, a good place to start would be to go out and get a gun or two, preferably big guns. Just make sure you're stable enough to handle the responsibilities associated with gun ownerwhip, and don't do anything crazy with it.
Can't afford to by a gun, check your local pawn shop or better yet, online brokers of used guns. No going postal with it though! Seriously, if you think you may even be inclined to joke about such things, at least be sure to keep it locked up in a gun safe and leave the key in possession of a family member, friend or spouse.
Enough is enough. It is time for the American people to demand their government -- both parties -- play by rules that don't lead the country down the drain by way of lowest common denominator political tactics and techniques. I for one am sick and tired of it, and I'm not just going to sit here and say nothing during what might be the final few days of freedom of speech in the United States of America. I'm not going to advocate violence or anything like that, but I will write about our government's trampling of our consitution until enough of you start reading that we get thugs like DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano and the other thugs that appointed her thrown out of office.
America, do you think you have it in you to put a stop to this? All I can say is God, I sure hope so. I really don't want to live through the fall of the United States of America and the Orwellian nightmare that would inevitably ensue. Do not heed this lightly, as the day is much nearer than you may think.
